Mavericks North Miami High School promotes personal integrity with an emphasis on the lifelong learning process. The goal of Mavericks North Miami High School’s Academic Integrity Policy is to ensure that teachers, students, and parents understand and practice values and skills that result in an academically honest environment.
As part of the approach to learning, students learn the value of thoughtful investigation, of giving others credit for their work, and of synthesizing information so that it becomes part of the students’ body of knowledge, rather than an empty exercise in copying others’ creations. Students also learn to recognize when collaboration is appropriate and when it is not appropriate.

When Jessica Balan started at Mavericks High, she had challenges that would prove tough for any individual. She was a single mother, had just lost her own mother in November 2011, and began with only seven credits in January towards earning her high school diploma. Now, nearly six months later, things have changed dramatically for the 19-year old. She is now an official graduate; having leaped from 7 credits in January to 25! She has learned to balance school, work, and motherhood while all the while maintaining a positive and uplifting attitude for her and others. This was seen moreover, in her capacity as a student ambassador; an esteemed honor given only to students considered to be the best and brightest amongst representatives for their campus. Additionally, Jessica managed to make a great impression on the board for the Community Centers of South Florida Scholarship Foundation. By the time that Jessica had found out about the organization’s scholarship, it was already too late and the deadline had passed. However, with great tenacity and perseverance, she convinced the Foundation that with her triumphs and the tireless efforts she had given during numerous blood drives on campus, that she was a worthy candidate. They agreed. After the deadline and banquet had passed, the committee reconvened and decided to award Jessica a scholarship for $3200. This will definitely come in handy as she continues her studies at Miami-Dade College. Way to go Jessica! You’ve made us so proud! We are sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear of your great accomplishments!

Why let spring have all of the fun showing off all of its blooms? Or only let the summer get things heated up?! Mavericks High of North Miami (MHNM) surely hasn’t; as they rounded out the end of the spring blooming with success and kicking off the summer with quite the sizzle! In a very short span, MHNM has had numerous achievements to celebrate.
For starters, they hosted an amazing career fair that boasted nearly 30 organizations. It was during this great event that MHNM’s very own Mr. Garshly Baptiste, a student ambassador, impressed one of the organizations so much that he actually was offered a scholarship on the spot from Florida Memorial University. Way to go Garshly! Next, Ms. Heather Thompson was recognized as our nominee for Devry University’s Educator of the Year. This included being invited to take part in a beautiful reception amongst other nominees, which was held inside of the newly renovated Student Lounge at their Miramar Campus. What an honor and esteemed group to be called member to! Lastly, and rounding out the end of the spring was Ms. Jessica Balan. This year marked the 31st Annual High School Luncheon held by the Community Blood Centers of South Florida. During the event, which was held at the Signature Grand in Davie, several scholarships were awarded to educators, students, and schools—including our very own Jessica Balan. She had missed the original deadline but after being so impressed by her, the area collection director called and offered her a scholarship. Way to go to MHNM!!! Keep up the great work!

We at Mavericks High, with the sincerest of hearts, are delighted to congratulate the Class of 2014!!! Our students have worked diligently. They showed us what perseverance looks like, as they pushed past the obstacles that tried to impede their success—until they ultimately arrived at the finish line. Over the span of eight graduations, we proudly watched 573 students gleaming in satin white robes, arrive as our students, but leave as our graduates! We laughed, cried, and beamed with pride alongside their family and friends, to congratulate them on this great and momentous achievement. The course for our students does not stop here however. We are pleased to announce that an overwhelming majority of our graduates will be continuing on into post-secondary education institutions! We wish our graduates all the best! The future only gets brighter for them from here!
